A new column opens up the quasi-hermetic world of the private collector and her prized possessions, inaugurated this issue by Madelon Vriesendorp. There are a lot of new things in this issue, as well. The middle pages of the magazine are a veritable Treasury of Bidounish Wonders, a visual catalogue produced by creative director Babak Radboy, armed only with vinyl, corkboard, and a handful of items from obscure mail-order catalogues.
But all of them, we think, are slightly fantastic, and in any case we hope you enjoy them. (At least one of them was tough to write, take my word for it.) Some are weirdly moving. Dictators are slightly overrepresented (but then, nobody loves a prop like a dictator). We thought of it as a quest, or rather a question - what are the Bidounest things in the world? We asked friends old and new to play along with us, imagine just such an object, and then tell us a story about it.Īnd lo, the stories they told: monuments and memento mori iconic props of iconic people trusty or beloved cars, buses, blankets, drums. By which we mean to imply neither a rigorous art-historical treatment of the modernist object, nor a phenomenological account of stuff, nor some psychological treatment of desire and its target. Sims can play "Stick 'Em Up" with orangutans. In the Shipwrecked and Single story, Waiata, the orangutan, is the protagonist's friend. On community lots, orangutans appear early in the morning, right after the hyenas leave. If an orangutan is hungry, it will climb a coconut, papaya or banana tree to eat its fruits. When orangutans want to sleep and there is no pet bed near they will sleep on the ground. Creativity skill is gained by making funny faces with Sims. Logic skill is gained by grooming Sims, gathering bananas, and sniffing around. Body skill can only be increased by intimidating, chasing, and fighting Sims. Males might have been intentionally left out to cover the fact that orangutans can't breed nor have offspring. The only way to remove them from a household is by evicting family members including the orangutan from the lot. Orangutans only have one lifestage and never die. In order to get an promotion they have to learn skills and have a good job performance, much like Sims. They also have only three skills: logic, body and creativity. Orangutans have all Sim needs, except Environment and Hygiene. Unlike cats and dogs, the orangutan is fully controllable. If a Sim gains enough relationship points with the orangutan, he or she can adopt it. They can be found on every community lot, usually in groups. Orangutans are a type of animal found in The Sims Castaway Stories.
